What documents do I need to donate my vehicle?
The Certificate of Title, or Registration (no lien holders). However, if you don't have it, let us know. In most cases we can we can have the tow company bring the documentation that you will need. You may have to supply a copy of your registration and photo ID.
What will this cost the donor or non-profit?
Nothing will ever come out of the pocket of the donor or non-profit. We pay ourselves 20% of the proceeds of the sale of a vehicle. If a vehicle sells for less than the costs of towing and auction fees, we will pay the difference out of our own pocket.
How is my tax deduction/value of my car determined?
1. For vehicles sold for under $500, a fair market value of $500 can be claimed without any additional paperwork. The necessary tax receipt will be mailed to you.
2. If the gross proceeds are in excess of $500, you can deduct the actual sale price. We will provide you with the receipt stating the final sale price within 30 days of sale.
Can I donate the vehicle of someone who has passed away?
The short answer is yes, but further paperwork is required depending on where you live. Let us know what state you’re from and we can help you out.
Does my vehicle have to run?
No. Many of our donors donate cars that do not run.
My car is at the mechanic, and I would rather donate it than pay to have it fixed. Can you pick it up from the shop?
Yes. Just give us a heads up if you will not be there when we pick it up so arrangements can be made.
