Pre-donation
It is easy. Choose your nonprofit, complete the short online form, or call us and our team will take your information by phone and arrange a free pickup. Many of our partners also link their own donation page on their website, so you can start right there.
Donating is easy and the pickup is free. It skips the cost and hassle of selling a car, frees up space, beats a low trade-in offer, and is tax-deductible when you itemize. Most of all, it sends real funding to a cause you care about.
Donated vehicles are sold through our nationwide network of buyers, and the proceeds fund the programs of your chosen nonprofit. We review every donation to choose the sales path that returns the most.
Yes. Start the form and include the name of your preferred nonprofit, and we will reach out to coordinate the donation on their behalf.
We consider all of them, running or not: cars, trucks, vans, boats, RVs, motorcycles, campers, trailers, and most other motorized vehicles. Tell us about yours on the form or by phone and we will confirm.
There is no cost to the donor. All expenses are deducted from the gross sale price, and if costs ever exceed the price, we cover them.
In most states you will need a current title with any liens released. Rules vary, and some states have exceptions. If you do not have your title or have an issue with it, call us anyway and we will walk you through the options.
The pickup
No. Pickup and towing are always free to you.
Often we can schedule on the first call, and in many cases pickup happens within about two days. If you need it sooner, tell us and we will do our best to accommodate.
We provide free pickup across the country. Wherever your vehicle is, start the form or call us and we will coordinate it.
Remove all personal belongings and have the title and keys ready. Please wait to sign the title until the driver guides you to the correct spot. In most cases the driver provides a donation receipt at pickup.
You can name someone as the point of contact to hand over the signed title and keys on your behalf. Let us know and we will prepare them for the pickup.
After pickup
Depending on your state, notify your motor vehicle department that you no longer have the vehicle. This releases you from liability. Only do this after the vehicle is picked up.
Only cancel your insurance after you have notified the state that you donated the vehicle. If your state requires notification, never cancel before reporting that you no longer possess the vehicle.
Once we pick up the vehicle, we take responsibility for it. In the rare event you receive any notice related to the donated vehicle, contact us right away and we will help resolve it.
Title transfer & sale
Title transfer varies by state, and our team and vendors help you take the correct steps so the paperwork is handled properly at the time of pickup.
The sale typically takes about four to twelve weeks. Proceeds are sent to your chosen nonprofit shortly after the sale completes.
Yes. Once your vehicle sells, we send a thank-you letter on behalf of the receiving nonprofit, which serves as your tax receipt. If it sells for more than $500 and you provided your tax ID, we mail IRS Form 1098-C.
Tax benefits
Yes. Tax situations vary, so for specific questions consult your tax advisor or refer to IRS Publication 4303. We provide the documentation you need.
If your vehicle sells for more than $500, your deduction is generally the sale price shown on IRS Form 1098-C. If it sells for $500 or less, you may claim the lesser of fair market value or $500 with a written acknowledgment.
Yes. As long as you submit your donation form by December 31 for a vehicle with a clear title, it can count for the same tax year, even if the receipt arrives the following year.
Of course. Call or email us and let us know you need a replacement, and we will send it over.
