Signing your Texas title, step by step

Find the owner/seller section
On your Texas title, locate the section for the registered owner or seller. The owner's name as printed on the title should match the person signing.

Print and sign as the seller
Print the owner's name where indicated, then sign and date on the seller's signature line. If the title lists co-owners (joined by "and"), every owner must sign.

Record the odometer reading
Enter the vehicle's current mileage in the odometer section. Most vehicles require this; write the exact reading and don't leave it blank.

Handle any lienholder
If a bank or lender is listed on the title, the loan must be paid off and the lien released before the title can transfer. The lien release is usually shown on the title or on a separate letter from the lender.

Leave the buyer section to us
You do not fill in the buyer/purchaser information. The buyer of a donated vehicle is the auction or vendor that processes the sale — not the nonprofit — and that section is completed for you.

- Never use white-out or scribble over a mistake — an altered title can be rejected. If you make an error, contact us before signing again.
